What is this?

This refers to the process of matching bank statement data to cash book data.
It is usually completed on receipt of a bank statement and for each bank account
(current, savings, deposit) for which a cash book is held.

It is useful exercise to validate the integrity of the cash book (i.e. it is correct!) and
transactions on the bank statement (i.e. it is correct!). It is also a way of ensuring all
bank charges have been picked up in the cash book as well as direct debits and
standing orders.

This is a standard bookkeeping process for reconciling items between 2 sets of books.
It is therefore simple to complete but may require some bookkeeping skills.
